1. miscellaneous notes. James A. H. m. Sarah or Rachel Hendrick and they had 2 sons who lived with grandparents Ephraim Horne/Elizabeth Williamson until about 1811. After 1811 lived with other grandparents John Wms. Hendrick and Ann ____ in Baldwin coGA and Wayne CoMS. Both sons died in Wayne CoMS.

2. Wife/Children. I have entered James A. Horne as husband to Rachel Hendrick because that is the belief of the HORNE family members who have assisted me. I also wanted to include the many HORNE descendants in my database. I still have personal reservations that Rachel Hendrick, the wife of Christopher C. Collins, was also married to James A. Horne.

FHL Film #192269:
"We the subscribers do hereby certify that the foregoing is a just and true appraisement of the goods and chattels of James Horn, deceased, as produced and shown unto us by Christopher Collins, administrator of the estate of the said James Horn. Given under our hands this 9th day of February 1805. Signed by Jacob Collins, Job Weathersby and John Williams Hendrick."
HORNE descendants believe that Rachel Hendrick, daughter of John Williams Hendrick, was the mother of the two boys, John Hendrick Horne and Collins Lyles Horne, declared "orphans" in 1811.

Documentation offered is:
1. HORNE family bible published in 1824. Written on the Births Family Record page is the notation:
"John H. Horne, son of James A. and Rachel Horne, bornd 20th of August 1795".
2. Small gray granite tombstone in Matherville Cemetery with the inscription:
"Rachel Horne, mother of John H."

James A. Horne died prior to 9 Feb 1805 in Barnswell District SC. Christopher C. Collins, husband of Rachel Hendrick, was the Administrator of that estate. Christopher and Rachel were married about 1798-99 as their first child, Jacob, was born 30 Dec 1799. If Rachel Hendrick is indeed the mother of the two HORNE boys, then was she divorced from James A. Horne prior to her marriage to Christopher Collins? Search of records has not revealed a marriage record of Rachel Hendrick to either James A. Horne or Christopher C. Collins, nor has it produced a divorce record...something highly unusual in the 1790s.

3. Census. 1790 Cheraws District SC census:
Head of Family - John W. Hendrick
Males: 1 (under 16), 1 (over 45)
Females: 4
Slaves: 1
The older male is obviously John Williams Hendrick. He apparently had a son under 16 in 1790. Nothing further is known about the boy. There are FOUR females in this household...his wife Ann, his daughter Rachel, his daughter Lucy, and another daughter...whom I believe to be named "Sarah".

It was Sarah who married James A. Horne. She may have died in childbirth or when the boys were very young. When JAH died, the two boys were orphaned.
